I agreed to comply with Caritas Code of Conduct for Staff as specified in the Saguarding Policy, Data Protection Policy, Child Protection Policy, Man-Woman relationship policy, Policy on Prevention of Money Laundering and Combating Terrorist Financing and Anti-corruption Policy during my employment with Caritas.

 

Caritas Bangladesh’s Standards of Behavior towards Children

 

Caritas Bangladesh (CB) staff and associates must remain aware of perceptions and appearances in their language, actions, and relationships to children and safeguard them from harm. CB Staff and associates should be aware at all times to uphold the dignity of each child and treat all children with respect.

The following outline provides behavioral expectations of all CB Staff and Associates when interacting with children (any person under 18 years of age).

Conduct themselves in manner consistent with values of Caritas, including complying with the Caritas Bangladesh Code of Conduct.

Hit and physically abuse children (even if culturally acceptable).

Treat all children and their families with respect, regardless of race, color, gender, language, religion, political or other opinion, national, ethnic or social origin,
property, disability, birth or other status.

Emotionally or verbally abuse a child.

Listen to children.

Be harsh toward a child. If a child expresses discomfort, stop the behavior.

Provide welcoming, inclusive and safe environment for children that prevents all forms of abuse and exploitation.

Have sex or engage in any sexual activity with a child including inappropriate touch.

Be sensitive when they are around children (i.e. language, conversations, touch and gestures).

Send degrading or harmful written or verbal messages to a child, such as sex- texting, pornography.

Respect cultural differences which do not harm children.

Use any computers, mobiles, video cameras or social media to exploit or harass children, or access, download or share child exploitation material.

Be transparent in actions and whereabouts.

Hire a child

Have at least one other adult present when they are with a child. Care and discretion must be used on all one-on-one situations.

Encourage a child to meet with them outside of work-related activities.

Ensure that an adult caretaker is present when transporting a child; and if not possible, obtain appropriate permission.

Take a child to their homes.

Report any concerns of child abuse or exploitation

Find themselves alone with a child (there may be exceptions)

Disclose all charges or convictions if they relate to child exploitation

Do things for child of a personal nature that they are able to do for themselves

Comply with country legislation

Show favoritism

Ensure contact with children is supervised, accompanied or at least in sight of other adults.

Be intoxicated or under the influence of drugs when with children

 

Zero Tolerance Policy on Sexual Harassment

In order to establish/promote a sexual harassment free working environment, Caritas Bangladesh prohibits all forms of sexual harassment conducted/committed by or against supervisors, managers, staff at any level, irrespective of their position including partners,  project participants, etc. whether engaged full time or on temporary, or other basis. No form of sexual harassment or creation of hostile work environment will be tolerated because such acts are a violation of human rights and against the core value of Caritas Bangladesh.

Definition of Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment is inappropriate, unwanted and unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature perceived as harassment by the receiver, which has an adverse effect on the dignity of women and men within the workplace and outside.

All of the followings can be considered as Sexual Harassment

  1. Implicitly or explicitly using/threatening/insinuating/condoning sexual behavior to control/influence affect the pay/terms & conditions of employment/job promotion or career of a staff member;
  2. Making deliberate or repeated unwelcome verbal comments, jokes or gestures or role-lay of a sexual nature;
  3. Touching or making unwanted physical contact in any manner;
  4. Unwelcome sexual flirtation; making unwelcome advances or propositions;
  5. Using psychological and mental pressure and /or actions as a form of punishment for refusing sexual advances;
  6. Making sexually aggressive comments about an individual’s dress or body;
  7. Displaying or storing in the workplace demeaning, insulting, intimidating or sexually suggestive objects or pictures, including photographs;
  8. Sending sexually suggestive written, recorded or electronic messages, including pornographic video programs;
  9. Indulging in any other behavior, verbal and non-verbal, which may be construed as sexual harassment.
