We, the Caritas Bangladesh (CB) family members are happy to share the good news that Mr. Ratan Kumar Podder, an employee of CB has been selected as one of the four InterAction’s 2021 Humanitarian Award winners.

InterAction is the largest alliance of international NGOs and partners in the United States. Its member NGOs work in 100-plus countries and Catholic Relief Services (CRS) – the US Caritas is one of them.

This prestigious award is a recognition of work that CB is doing with support of various donors including Catholic Relief Services for the displaced people by the natural disasters and crises especially for the people whose homes are affected.

Mr. Podder impressed the InterAction with his commitment to helping the displaced families accessing safe and dignified homes. They found Mr. Podder clearly a technical expert in his field, bringing unparalleled shelter and settlements experience to the Rohingya response.

According to Ratan, “Home is not only a living space with walls and roof, but it is a foundation of family life and the entry point for addressing needs of individuals and families.”

Mr. Podder has been working with CB since November 1984. From November 2017 to December 2020, he led the Shelter & Settlement Sector under Inter Sector Coordination Group (ISCG) for the Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals (Rohingya) in Cox’s Bazar. We are proud of Mr Podder for his contribution to the Shelter & Settlement Sector that led CB as a strong actor in this sector not only locally but also globally!
